Smooth and Even Skin Pigmentation Peels

Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition of increased melanin (pigment) in the skin that presents as darkness and uneven skin tone. It is the most common skin complaint in Australia and can contribute to the appearance of ageing in the skin.

The mechanism for this increase in dermal melanin can be driven by a number of factors. These include sun exposure, hormonal changes (contraception, pregnancy, thyroid conditions), genetic factors (common in darker skin types) and following inflammation.

Cosmelan® and Dermamelan® are depigmentation peels that are designed to decrease discolouration and pigmentation in the skin. It is particularly popular for the treatment of melasma (although sun protection and skincare actives remain key here). The entire process includes using products in the lead up to the peel to prep the skin, the in-office peel and the home care products afterwards.

Once your skin has been adequately prepped the Cosmelan® or Dermamelan® peel will be applied to your skin for 8-12 hours. Ideally this will be done in the morning so that you have the day to allow for this time. This will then be washed off at home and the aftercare products will be applied daily for the next 72 hours.

Over the following week the skin will start to peel and flake revealing healthy new skin underneath. You will be reviewed in clinic on day 3 to have a Heallite II treatment and encourage healing. These appointments (including the Aftercare products) are all included in the cost of the treatment.

• Unable to use sunscreen daily
• Pregnant or breastfeeding
• Rosacea or inflammatory skin conditions that are not adequately controlled
• Currently on oral isotretinoin (Roaccutane) or have been in the last 12 months.

The underlying cause of pigmentation in the skin and the health of your skin will determine how many sessions are required. However, only one treatment is needed for most clients.

Cosmelan® $1500
This includes the application of the Cosmelan® peel, a take home kit for extended results and a complimentary Heallite II treatment to assist with healing. A consultation is required to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for this treatment.

Dermamelan® $1900
Based on similar ingredients to the Cosmelan peel, this is a more potent treatment. This is only offered in medical clinics and is used to treat more severe pigmentation. This includes a take home kit for extended results and a Heallite II treatment to assist with healing. A consultation is required to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for this treatment.
