Ageing – that big bad scary word that no-one wants to address.
In our industry, we see many people whose main concern is ageing, this can be present in the skin in a multitude of different ways. These range from lost elasticity, scarring, depletion of collagen, pigmentation, glycation, unhealthy skin tone and honestly so many more. These can be present due to genetics, poor lifestyle habits, excessive sun exposure, illness, medications and general depletion as our bodies age. Though we will inevitably age, there are exciting treatments, like skin rejuvenation, that help slow and in some cases correct the process.
At the heart of modern skin rejuvenation treatments are lasers, offering highly effective solutions for a wide range of skin concerns. With a vast array of laser options available, it can seem overwhelming if you’re unfamiliar with the technology. However, understanding the basics can make these treatments less daunting and more accessible. Lasers are versatile tools used to address issues like fine lines, pigmentation, and texture, helping to rejuvenate the skin and restore its youthful glow.
To simplify things, laser treatments can be categorized into two main types: Ablative and Non-Ablative lasers. At Dr. Scott Allison’s clinic, we offer a variety of these laser skin rejuvenation treatments, each tailored to specific skin concerns, ensuring you receive the most appropriate and effective care for your individual needs.
Ablative Lasers
Ablative lasers remove the epidermal layers of the skin and also work on rebuilding the dermal layers, these are the holy grail of the industry. In Queensland these can only be performed by a Physician and require quite a bit of downtime. The most appealing thing about ablative lasers is that you generally only require one session (two if you are treating severe scarring).
As this is removing the epidermis of the skin it is essentially a wound and needs to be treated as such. If you are able to have time off work (or work from home, 2020 am I right?) then this is the skin rejuvenation treatment for you. Amazing results long term can be achieved in as little as one session.
Non-Ablative Lasers
Non-ablative lasers work by heating the underlying tissue of the skin where collagen and elastin is needed for support. This does not affect the epidermis of the skin and requires minimal to no down time. Depending on the technology being used and the skin conditions being treated, your skin’s redness should last from as little as 4 – 48 hours. These lasers can achieve amazing results, though you will require multiple treatments and maintenance treatments are always advised.
What Skin Rejuvenation treatments do we offer?
Pearl Laser Fusion
This is our ablative laser that is performed by Dr Scott Allison. This is a combination of Pearl Skin Resurfacing and Pearl Fractional technologies. Pearl Fractional technologies use Co2 and erbium lasers to renew the deep layers of the skin (Dermis). They work by heating the water molecule in the skin, this creates a healing response to the cells (Fibroblasts). This helps to rejuvenate the skin and give it a youthful, glowing complexion.
Pearl Skin Resurfacing treats the epidermal layers of the skin this helps to remove the outermost layer which will help with sun pigment, fine lines, pore size and clarity. This skin rejuvenation treatment is the best on the market if ageing and overall health is a concern. Typically one session is required.
Laser Genesis
This is a non-ablative laser that helps to reverse the signs of ageing, this addresses fine lines, scarring and imperfections in the skin. Genesis uses micro-pulses of laser energy to activate and remodel collagen, this leads to a more radiant complexion. This treatment requires no downtime and can even be performed in your lunch break.
Six sessions minimum are required every two weeks to achieve the best outcome. This depends on the health of the skin prior, I’d recommend booking a consultation so we can give a realistic treatment plan.
Limelight
This is a little different as this is actually IPL technology (Intense pulse light) which is a non-invasive light treatment that works to target unwanted pigmentation and redness in the skin. Lime Light uses the benefits of three light based devices used in one solution with a wavelength of 520 – 1100nm. This range of light treats both haemoglobin (red) and melanin (brown).
Lime Light heats the vessel or pigment and works on eliminating them from the surface of the skin. This will leave the pigment looking darker for 7 – 14 days until those cells have shifted revealing a lighter more refined skin. Post treatment you will be red and potentially swollen, this should subside in 24 – 48 hours. One to three sessions is advised and will differ depending on the quality and damage to the skin.
Vascular Laser (ND YAG)
Vascular laser use a wavelength of (1064nm) which reaches the deeper layers of the skin more effectively than other lasers. It is used to treat vessels in the skin and can be used on both the face and the body. It is a safe and effective skin rejuvenation treatment which treats tiny spider veins up to deep blue reticular veins.
The laser sends pulses of light energy which causes the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be. You will experience redness post treatment which will subside within a few hours. Minimum of three sessions are advised with correct product use and maintenance treatments also recommended.
Now that I have explained all of this, which skin rejuvenation treatment is best suited for you? I can completely understand if you are still confused what is best for you. As you can see there are a number of different lasers on the markets and these are only a few of them. I advise booking a consultation, we will guide and educate you into making the most informed choice for your skin.
