Post-Procedure Care Following Jawline Treatment

Post-Procedure Care Following Jawline Treatment

After jawline volume treatment, appropriate post-procedure care is important to support healing. Although professional guidance is essential for individualised aftercare instructions, there are some general guidelines for jawline treatment aftercare which we will explore here.

Post-Procedure Care Recommendations

The following are general post-procedure care principles. Your practitioner will provide specific instructions for jawline treatment aftercare, based on your individual procedure. Always follow the specific instructions provided by your treating practitioner.

1. Cold Application

Intermittent cold application may help manage swelling and discomfort in the first 24-48 hours.

Proper technique:

  • Wrap ice or cold pack in clean cloth (never apply directly to skin)
  • Apply for 10-15 minutes, then remove for 20-30 minutes
  • Avoid prolonged direct cold exposure which can cause tissue damage
  • Discontinue if skin becomes excessively cold, numb, or painful

This method keeps your skin cool without being too cold.

2. Head Elevation

Keep your head elevated above heart level, particularly when sleeping, to promote healing.

Implementation:

  • Sleep with head elevated on multiple pillows or wedge pillow
  • Avoid lying completely flat for first 48-72 hours
  • Maintain elevation while resting during the day when possible

3. Hydration

Maintaining good hydration supports overall health and healing processes.

To make staying hydrated easier and more enjoyable, try incorporating fruit-infused water, herbal teas, or electrolyte-enhanced drinks into your routine. These options not only add variety but also provide an extra boost to your hydration levels.

4. Sun Protection

The treated area may be more sensitive following the procedure. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily, especially when going out. Sun protection is important for overall skin health.

5. Follow Practitioner-Specific Instructions

  • Areas treated
  • Products used
  • Your individual risk factors
  • Specific technique employed

Follow these specific instructions carefully. If instructions are unclear or you experience concerning symptoms, contact Dr. Scott Allison.
Do not hesitate to ask questions or seek clarification about any aspect of your aftercare. Professional guidance is available if you have concerns during recovery.

Things to avoid

1. Avoid Manipulating Treated Area

Do not massage, press, or excessively touch the treated area for at least 2 weeks (or as directed by your practitioner) unless specifically instructed to do so. Manipulation may displace product, cause swelling, or introduce bacteria at injection sites.

Remember, when cleansing and applying skincare to be gentle and use the recommended skincare products. Always using soft, gentle motions and patting to dry.

2. Avoid heat-induced activities

Heat and high temperatures may cause irritation to the skin and increase the risk of inflammation to the area.

It’s important to avoid any strenuous exercise, saunas and excessive sun exposure for 24 – 48 hours post treatment.

3. Avoid Certain Medications (Unless Medically Necessary)

Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for several days before and after procedure if medically appropriate.

NEVER discontinue prescribed medications without consulting the prescribing physician. If you take blood thinners for medical conditions, discuss this with Dr. Scott Allison before your procedure.

4. Don’t use makeup for 24 hours

It is important to avoid makeup for 24 hours post procedure, as usual makeup can cause irritation and possible infection to the entry site of the enhancement product or procedure.

If you have daily activities that you need to attend to, we recommend mineral-based products.

It is important you apply with clean hands or clean makeup tools as they can harbour bacteria and cause infection and irritation to the treatment area.

5. Avoid Facial Treatments

Postpone the following for at least 2-4 weeks (or as directed):

  • Professional facials
  • Facial massage
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Chemical peels
  • Laser treatments
  • Microneedling
  • Other aesthetic procedures in the treated area

It’s important to allow ample time for your jawline to settle before resuming these treatments.

Why does jawline treatment aftercare matter?

Cosmetic treatments are processes that involve care and thoughtful aftercare routines. It’s important to adhere to your aftercare guidance, as this can aid your recovery and help avoid (though not entirely prevent) the risk of complications.

Expected effects (common and typically resolve):

  • Swelling (can be moderate to significant, typically improves over several days to 2 weeks)
  • Bruising (variable, may be extensive in some patients, typically resolves over 1-2 weeks)
  • Tenderness at injection sites
  • Temporary asymmetry while swelling resolves
  • Firmness or irregularities (may persist several weeks)
  • Redness at injection sites

Consult with Dr. Scott Allison for your jawline treatment aftercare advice

Post-procedure care is an important component of the overall procedure experience, but outcomes depend on multiple factors including individual anatomy, healing capacity, injection technique, and biological responses – not solely on aftercare practices.

Dr Scott Allison and the clinical team at Ascension are available if you have questions or concerns during your recovery period.
