Hyperhidrosis can affect specific body areas such as the underarms, palms, soles of the feet, and face. It may occur without any obvious trigger (primary hyperhidrosis) or as a result of an underlying medical condition (secondary hyperhidrosis).
Excess sweating is not necessarily related to physical activity or temperature — it’s often due to an overactive sympathetic nervous system that overstimulates sweat glands.
During your consultation, Dr Allison will assess your medical history and possible contributing factors to determine whether treatment with injectables is suitable and safe for you.
In some cases, diagnostic testing or specialist referral may be recommended before treatment.
Some treatment options may involve prescription-only medicines or medical devices. In accordance with Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) regulations, these are not advertised publicly and are only discussed in private medical consultation.
How It Works Addressing Excessive Sweating
Treatment for hyperhidrosis involves the use of prescription-only injectables that temporarily reduce sweat production in the targeted area.
-
Assessment — Dr Allison evaluates your areas of concern, health background, and treatment goals.
-
Preparation — The skin is cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be applied to enhance comfort.
-
Process — Fine needles are used to place small amounts of the prescription medicine just below the skin, directly targeting the sweat glands.
-
Aftercare — The treated area may appear slightly pink or swollen for a few hours, settling naturally.
Treatment areas can include the underarms, palms, soles, or forehead, depending on your individual needs.
Treatment effects develop gradually, and the degree and duration of improvement differ between individuals. Results and duration vary for each person, and maintenance sessions may be required to manage symptoms over time.
Risks and Complications
The procedure is typically well-tolerated when performed under medical supervision; however, all injections carry potential risks and side effects. These may include:
-
Temporary redness, swelling, or small bumps at injection sites
-
Mild bruising or tenderness
-
Temporary imbalance in sweating between treated areas
-
Rare diffusion of product causing mild, temporary muscle weakness
-
Very rare allergic reaction
There is a low risk of infection, which is minimised through sterile technique and aftercare compliance.
Your medical history, allergies, and any previous cosmetic or medical treatments will be reviewed in detail before proceeding.
You will be informed of all potential risks and contraindications during your consultation to ensure you can make an informed decision.
Aftercare
Following treatment, the treated areas should not be massaged or handled for several hours.
Dr Allison will provide individualised aftercare, which may include the following recommendations:
-
Avoid vigorous exercise or hot environments (e.g., saunas) for 24 hours.
-
Do not massage or press on the treated area for several hours post-treatment.
-
Avoid lying flat for 4 hours after the procedure.
-
Keep the area clean and free from heavy skincare or deodorant products until the following day.
-
Apply a cold compress if mild swelling or discomfort occurs.
You may gradually notice reduced sweating as the treatment takes effect.
Results vary and can last several months before re-treatment is required. All aftercare guidance will be tailored to your medical background and treatment plan
