Botox for Sweating: What You Need to Know

Has sweating ever prevented you from doing the things that you love?

Being sweaty can hamper you from feeling confident, and although it is good for regulating your body temperature, it can be really annoying to deal with. Lucky for you, we have a solution. Botox for sweating can be used for hyperhidrosis. It’s true! With Botox, you can reduce sweating by an average 75%.

Spring is here in Australia and as the weather warms, excessive sweating occurs in different parts of the body. It can also be triggered by stress. Only you know your body and the best way for us to support you, is to come in and have a private consultation at Dr Scott Allison’s specialist clinic.

Before you start any Botox for sweating treatment to minimise sweating, we recommend digesting some of our frequently asked questions. Say hello to Spring and goodbye to sweat!

How does your skin sweat glands work?

The scientific reasoning for sweating is to regulate your body’s temperature. Sweat is produced by sweat glands that exist deep in the layers of your skin. These glands exist all over your body including your palms, armpits, and soles of your feet. Sweat is made of water and salts. It’s also useful for helping with grip, by adding moisture to your palms.

Excessive sweating is known as hyperhidrosis. A condition called idiopathic hyperhidrosis is a common form of hyperhidrosis. With this condition, patients experience sweating continuously, no matter the weather.

Ever felt sweaty while being nervous or anxious? Excessive sweating can also be a symptom of emotional stress.

Will botox help my hyperhidrosis?

When you first come in for a consultation, we take a look at your skin type and your sweating conditions. We then measure and plan out a procedure that will help reduce your sweating by up to 75%.

Botox for sweating don’t take long and can be done in one visit.

Once you come in for the procedure, we use injectables to place the botox beneath the skin. The injections are done in a grid pattern to ensure uniformity. Before the injections are done, we’ll use a topical numbing agent to soothe any discomfort that may occur with the procedure.

Before your Botox injections, we ask you to not take any medications that cause blood thinning. Since Botox may cause some bruising and swelling, if you take medications like aspirin, this bruising may get worse. We’ll of course advise you on the do’s and don’ts before your procedure.

How long do the results of botox for hyperhidrosis last?

The results of this procedure lasts for approximately five months. Sometimes even longer! You might have 99 problems, but excessive sweating definitely won’t be one.

Aftercare for botox

Like all other cosmetic procedures, we recommend staying away from exercise for at least 24 hours. Having good aftercare can truly maximise the results of your treatments. It is good to relax as much as you can and maintain a normal heart rate. Avoid touching or applying any physical pressure to the injected area.

Physical activity increases blood flow throughout your body. This also can increase your chances of having toxins reach areas that have just been injected, reducing the effectiveness of your procedure. We recommend rest and relaxation after your procedure.
